Hunting is a sport many students in Polson Middle School experience. There are two main types of hunting: rifle and bow. Bow season is before rifle season and starts on September 5 and ends October 18. There is a two-day youth deer hunt on October 15-16. General big game season goes from October 24 to November 29.

To become a hunter, you must have a hunting license, earned by completing a hunter safety course which is taught in fall or spring at Polson Middle School. The Law of Apprentice passed in 2015 that allows 10 year olds to hunt under the supervision of their parents without a hunting license.

Lots of students at PMS hunt. “I hunt for deer and elk meat. I enjoy being with my family,” said Sharmaine Zempel, 8th grade student at Polson Middle School. Sharmaine has been hunting for two years and so far has shot two deer, an antelope and two elk. Her goal for this year is to shoot a black bear. Sixth grader Alex Muzquiz and his dad go hunting every year in Niarada, MT. “I took Hunter’s Safety last year and I shot my first doe this year.”
