Sixth grade girl’s developmental volleyball is held at the Polson High School gym in October and November. Sixth grade ELA teacher Mrs. McElwee taught 30girls basics skills of volleyball, such as forearm passing, overhead setting, and attacking the ball. She has been teaching developmental volleyball for 14 years. “Volleyball can be played by anyone that is willing to compete. The sport requires tenacity, skill, and willingness to work as a team,” says Mrs. McElwee. Sixth grader Turquoise Pierre added, “I joined volleyball because I’ve never tried it before, thought it would be fun, and it was.” During volleyball, the girls practice drills and play games to help themselves learn hand and eye coordination. Volleyball is a great sport that every fifth grade girl can look forward to next year.
